Review: Recycled, robust, water-resistant, eco-friendly Healthy Back Bag

From the moment I trekked up my first mountain in Zimbabwe, courtesy of Operation Raleigh, I’ve been hooked on outdoor travel adventures. Unfortunately, at the same time I was bitten by the travel bug the epic expedition took its toll on my body resulting in major spinal surgery.

Consequently, these days when I’m yomping up a hill, I usually get my other half to carry the load, or if I’m on my own, I usually ditch the bag and opt to carry my essentials on me. As you can imagine the outcome of this is either an overloaded jacket or usually items, that are invariably needed en route, are often mislaid.

Thank goodness then for the eco-friendly Healthy Back Bag. This very clever bag, it’s makers claim, is probably the world’s most comfortable bag and after trialing it for a few days I’m inclined to agree.

Unlike regular bags which put excessive pressure on the shoulders and pull away from the body, causing you to compensate by leaning or twisting, the ergonomically designed Healthy Back Bag moulds to your body, distributing the weight equally across your back making heavy loads feel lighter whilst also encouraging good posture.

Wearing either across the body or over the shoulder, the patented design and adjustable non-slip strap allows the bag to contour to your back and remain in place, making it ideal for both outdoor activities and everyday wear.

Although a little smaller than the average day sack, the Healthy Back Bag from their Earth collection, which I was sent to review, still has plenty of space for essentials.

Externally there are 6 pockets large enough to hold items such as a water bottle, mobile phone, map, small notebook, sunglasses and purse/wallet. Four zipped, one Velcro and a full-length open pocket, personal possessions can be both securely stored and easily accessed whilst on the move.

Inside, the bag again offers multiple pockets to store your belongings. An interior spine pocket is the perfect place for spectacles, pen store, a large zipped pocket for passports or similar and another three open pockets for loose items. Hate rummaging through your bag for keys - the Healthy Back Bag has a handy key hook in an open pocket just inside the bag, so you’ll always have them to hand?

If, like me, you’re a little paranoid about carrying a bag on your back for security reasons, the clever Healthy Back Bag has got this covered. Simply by placing the main compartment zip along the inside edge of the bag, the double zipper is only accessible by you, giving you peace of mind when travelling in busy areas sure in the knowledge that ‘strange’ fingers won’t be rifling through your belongings when your back is turned.

Also did I mention you don’t even have to take the bag off to get into it yourself, another boon for on the go travellers? Simply manoeuvre the bag round to your front to access any of the pockets you desire.

How is the Healthy Back Bag collection eco-friendly? Because they are made using recycled PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) plastic drinks bottles and food containers which have been recycled, sorted, crushed, washed, dried then shredded into flakes, processed and woven into a highly durable, water-resistant fabric which is very comfortable to wear.

I really like my Earth Healthy Back Bag Sangria Small bag (to give it it’s full title) not just because it’s incredibly comfy to wear, I even forgot I was wearing mine until I sat back in a chair, I like it because it’s compact yet versatile, stylish, yet robust.

It is a very well designed and high quality bag that is sturdy and secure, all of the zips are robust, pockets functional and the single strap is strong and firmly attached, offering the reliability of a rucksack, but with the styling of a fashion bag – I love it!

These would be great when riding my motorcycle, due to the body hugging shape.

I love Healthy Back bags - I have a sage microfibre one which is great for days out, my favourite on the site just now are the big bags, would love to see how big they are. The bag you have reviewed also looks great, especially being waterproof. Great for saving your backs and feeling secure in a busy place.

I have a few back packs but all are very uncomfortable as designed for Computer/laptops. Have always wanted a small lightweight and good fitting backpack that could be worn all day.
